MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot and killed in the Nutbush area early Monday morning.

Memphis Police responded to a shooting in the 4200 block of Chelsea Avenue near Walter Street a little before 4:30 a.m. They found a man with a gunshot wound.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

Where this latest attack happened is just a few yards from one woman’s home of many years. Sadly, it’s at that same house where her granddaughter died after being struck by a single bullet in 2021.

She didn’t want to be identified but said she is concerned the ongoing violence will continue ripping apart families. Well before violence entered her home, she said it first came to her front door.

“I’ve had a drive by on my house before,” she said. “It scared me so bad, because it went right through. It missed me by that much.”

She showed with her hand how the bullet missed by nearly three inches. In that moment, everything changed, even how she arranges her furniture.

“It scared me so bad that I moved my couch,” she said. “I move my couch to the kitchen, back part of the house.”

With every violent attack, she is back to living in fear.

“It’s like the old west,” she said.

MPD says the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information that could help detectives, call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
