MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is dead and another person is in the hospital after a shooting in Hickory Hill Tuesday.
Police say officers responded to the shooting in the 3700 block of Kennings Drive.
A male and a female were transported to Regional One in critical condition. The male victim did not survive his injuries.
Police say the suspect is known to the victim.
According to neighbors, a man living at the home were the attack happened said this was a domestic dispute turned deadly.
Lynda Whalen, HOA President for the Burlington area, said this area has been on a downward path over the years.
“It really started in 2008 with the housing crisis, but in the last 6 weeks, I have seen a huge downfall in my neighborhood,” she said.
Things are declining because, as Whalen describes it, there is a lack of property pride.
A man living at the home where the attack happened, according to neighbors, said this was a domestic dispute, that turned deadly.
Bullet holes outlined in chalk from outside the home are reminders of what happened. There is real fear that move violence could move in as some are moving out.
“But we do the best we can out here, but we also have a huge problem with truancy. We have about 10 truant children right now,” Whalen said.
Whalen said she has an issue getting more neighbors more involved.
“No, everybody goes in their house and shuts the door. That’s my other problem. They are afraid. I get that,” she said.
