MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead after being shot at an apartment complex near the University of Memphis Sunday night.
Memphis Police say they found a man who had been shot to death inside the Stratum Apartments located at 510 South Highland Street around 10:40 p.m.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several of the residents we spoke to say the apartment complex mainly houses college students. At this time, it’s unclear if the man who was shot and killed actually lived in the apartment complex.
A resident told WREG the shooting happened on the fourth floor. He says he heard at least two gunshots.
This shooting comes on the heels of a violent week in the city of Memphis.
During last week’s rampage shooting that left three dead and three others injured, an alert was sent to University of Memphis students saying police responded to shots fired in the area of Patterson and Southern.
Eliza Fletcher, who was killed earlier in the week, was abducted while jogging near campus.
William Lockett says his son just enrolled in the U of M Law School and lives less than a block away from where Sunday night’s shooting happened.
“It’s kind of scary. Everything’s being in this little concentrated area and with us being new here, we don’t really know where to go or where not to go,” Lockett said.
MPD has not released any information on a suspect.
