MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are dead following two separate shootings in North Memphis on Wednesday.

Police say officers initially responded to a shooting in a vacant lot on the 600 block of Wells Avenue just before noon.

The victim, later identified as Markeith Taylor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than two hours later, tragedy struck again. While working a homicide scene with a large crowd, MPD said officers heard shots and found a man dead inside a car a few miles away on Marble Avenue.

Michael Hollowell lives nearby and said he heard the incident take place.

“We were all in the house and then all of a sudden we heard a lot of shooting, and I looked out the corner and there was a man laying in the street,” Hollowell said. “I looked out the door and somebody said ‘somebody is killed down there.'”

An anonymous neighbor told us they heard around nine shots.

Family members identified the victim as 23-year-old Alandus Turner. His family told us he is related to the person that was killed on Wells.

His girlfriend said the two share a son and had another baby on the way.

In Turner’s case, MPD said they detained three people at another location.

We’ve reached out to police to find out if any charges have been filed.
