MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 17-year-old is dead after two people were shot in Raleigh, police say.

Just after midnight Monday, police responded to a shooting at James Road and Old Austin Peay.

One person died from his injuries after being rushed to Regional One in critical condition. Police later confirmed the victim was 17.

Police say another victim was also injured in this shooting. He is expected to be okay.

Memphis Police officers focused their attention on an SUV that was on the side of the road. We noticed officers speaking with a man who appeared to own the SUV at the center of the investigation.

Officers eventually allowed him to leave with the SUV. It’s still unclear how he’s connected to the shooting.

Those living in the area we spoke to say the shooting may have started near an apartment complex down James Road.

People living at the Jamesbridge Apartments said there was a shootout late last night right in front of the front gate, leading them to believe that shootout is connected to the homicide officers are investigating.

Memphis Police have not said whether the two incidents are connected. However, residents said they hope whoever is committing these crimes will come forward.
