MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man drowned in Parkway Village Tuesday morning. Emergency responders were called to the Verano Townhomes – a complex formerly known as the Willow Creek apartments.
It was a wake up call to those living in the Parkway Village apartment complex. Many residents were certainly not expecting to wake up to crime scene tape. Jakia Davis spoke with WREG and lives at the complex.
“When I woke up, I stepped outside and all I saw was crime scene tape around the premises,” Davis said.
The apartment complex became a backdrop to an hours-long investigation.
“It’s really sad. Someone lost their child today,” Davis said.
Police haven’t revealed the victim’s identity but they said he’s an adult. It was an unsettling discovery, especially for those like Jakia Davis who saw it firsthand.
“I looked left and I, could see a deceased body,” Davis said “It’s really tragic. Because, this is like the third time this has happened over here.”
Others said they’re concerned more misfortune could make its way into the complex.
Neighbors we spoke with said they want warning signs outside the complex to be more visible. Residents called what happened here both disturbing and disheartening.
The investigation has since wrapped up, as law enforcement does not suspect foul play. Detectives have cleared the area, but questions still remain, including what it will take to ensure a moment of fun does not turn fatal again.
This has been ruled an accidental drowning.
