SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Southaven around 6 Wednesday morning.
The incident involved the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies with the SWAT Team were trying to execute an arrest warrant at a home on Clark Avenue.
The subject allegedly pointed a weapon in the direction of the officers. The subject was shot and killed. Officers did not receive any serious injuries.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is now investigating the incident. Once complete, they will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
MBI has not released the name of the man who was shot, but family members were at the scene, visibly distraught.
“Man, he is a good person,” said Larry Deener, who said the man was his brother. “Everybody that knows him knows he a good person, he looks out for everybody. He is good-hearted.”
A neighbor, who wants to stay anonymous, says they caught everything on a security camera.
On the video, you can hear the man’s wife yelling that her husband had been shot. The neighbor says it all started with several unmarked police cars and a SWAT truck in the neighborhood.
The neighbor said the neighborhood is very friendly and quiet. She did not personally know the man because they just moved into the area.
The neighbor says there were three children five and younger inside the home at the time of the shooting.
