MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead, and two people are in custody following a shooting in an East Memphis neighborhood Tuesday morning.

A little after 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 1300 block of Briarwood Drive. One man was found with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses in the neighborhood say they heard gunshots hours before officers arrived. “Around midnight, I heard like eight shots, and then I heard a loud car just drive off,” said one of the neighbors.

After things calmed down, people in the area say they heard another round of gunshots. “It sounded like two separate shootings,” said one resident.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, but they did detain two suspects. They say this is an ongoing investigation.
