MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was shot and killed at an AutoZone in Nutbush Saturday, according to Memphis Police.
At 11:31 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at 4011 Jackson Avenue where a male victim was located and pronounced dead on the scene.
The AutoZone where the shooting took place happens to be the same location police responded to last year for a shooting rampage that still has the city on edge.
“We were sitting over by the restaurant over there, and we heard one shot. There’s a lot of people over there but we didn’t know what happened. We thought it was a celebration,” said Docho Tapia.
He says he thought the noise was a firecracker coming from the Mexican Independence Day celebration happening across the street, but he soon heard several more pops and realized the sound was gunfire.
“There were three shots, then another two shots, I don’t know, they missed him. But after that, the shooting guy got in the car and left,” said Tapia.
It was a scene similar to the one at the same AutoZone last September when Ezekiel Kelley allegedly walked into the store and shot a shopper while filming the incident on Facebook live.
AutoZone declined to comment on the incident.
Police say there is no suspect information available at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
