MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was killed in a shooting at a Cordova shopping center early Sunday morning, according to Memphis Police.

Officers responded to the shooting at a shopping plaza on North Germantown Parkway just after 2 a.m.

According to MPD, the shooting took place at Xperience Kitchen & Cocktails, formerly known as Mugshots Bar & Lounge.

A man was located at the scene suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to Regional One where he was pronounced dead, police say.

The owner of the business says that despite reports, the shooting did not happen in his establishment. He says it happened in the parking lot right after they closed.

A man who did not want to be identified said that the shooting stemmed from an altercation inside the lounge.

“That young man probably came out the club and he was ambushed,” said the man.

The tragic news doesn’t come as a shock to people who live in the area.

“These young men out here getting these switches to these guns, and they’re out of control. Police can’t solve the problem because crime is still happening,” said a man who wanted to remain anonymous.

Police have not reported any additional injuries or given a motive for the shooting.

At this time, no reported arrests have been made.
