MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Christian Saulsberry died after being shot in the 7400 block of Church Road on Saturday.

According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, Saulsberry was shot in the leg and abdomen while at a birthday party.

The 25-year-old died on the way to the hospital, police say.

No one has been charged in the shooting. Police say it is an ongoing investigation.

Saulsberry attended Southaven High School and Northpoint Christian School, where he was a star athlete.

He led the Northpoint Trojans to the Division II State Championship in 2015. Following this, he played collegiately at West Alabama.

Saulsberry had returned home to Desoto County just a few weeks ago after earning his first taste of professional football as a return specialist for the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League.
