Memphis, Tenn. — A man has been charged in a Hickory Hill crash that killed one person and left another injured.

Memphis Police say the crash happened at the intersection of Hickory Hill and Raines Road on October 9, 2021.

Police say Jaddarius Kent is responsible for the crash. Crime reports state Kent was driving at a speed of 118 MPH in a Dodge Challenger. The speed limit in the area is 45 MPH.

The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was later identified as 56-year-old Darren Woods Sr.

A woman riding passenger with Kent was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a broken leg.

Kent was charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated assault and reckless driving in March.

Kent is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

It’s news Darren Woods Jr. has been waiting for. Someone is finally held accountable in his father’s death.

“A relief. A relief, I’m kinda like…it’s kinda eerie. I’m kinda in like a movie state right now. It’s the Twilight Zone,” Woods said. “All my prayers right now.”

While he misses his dad every day, Woods says he will be remembered for living a big life, always looking out for others.

“The mayor of Midtown, a lot of people in Memphis knew him. He was popular. A lot of people around the world knew him,’ Woods said.
