MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been detained after he reportedly held his mother hostage in a Tunica County motel Friday afternoon.
Sources say Mississippi local law enforcement agencies, including the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Americas Best Value Inn on Casino Center Drive.
Tunica County Sheriff K.C. Hamp says a family member called the sheriff’s office at around 10:56 a.m. and said 39-year-old Nicholas Haddy and his 74-year-old mother were at the motel. Haddy had reportedly sent pictures and made threats to family members.
Haddy reportedly barricaded himself and his mother in the motel room and threatened to kill his mother and anyone else who came into the room.
Hamp says officers with DeSoto County SWAT arrested Haddy at 1:43 p.m. His mother was safely removed from the room and taken to a local hospital for examination.
She was not harmed during the incident.
Hamp says Haddy was armed at the time of his arrest. Hamp says formal charges will be filed after they execute a search warrant on the motel room.
