MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A gas station in Southwest Memphis was purposely set on fire Wednesday morning, fire investigators say, and a suspect has been arrested.

The fire happened just before 6 a.m. at the GAS USA Deli gas station in the 4100 block of Horn Lake Road.

The Memphis Fire Department’s Fire Chief confirmed the fire’s cause was was arson. They say a man walked inside, poured gasoline on an ATM, and set it on fire.

The fire caused an estimated $1.5 million damage to the structure and $400,000 to the contents.

Thomas Glover

The suspect, Thomas Glover, was chased by a pedestrian to a house nearby on Sullivan Drive, where police found him in the shower, according to documents. Clothing in the house smelled of fuel, police said.

Glover is charged with aggravated arson.
