MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to the Marshall County Coroner, a body was found in a ditch on Friday in Marshall County, Mississippi.
Reports say that the body belonging to a Black male in his 40s was discovered on Highway 302 & Barton DeSoto Road.
Major Kelly McMillen of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department says they are working to figure out what happened to the victim.
“At this time, we’re waiting on results from an autopsy. The coroner has taken possession of the body and is in direct contact with the medical examiner’s office in Jackson to get this body examined and give us a manner of death,” said McMillen.
McMillen says they were called to the scene just after 3 p.m. today and found him face down with a backpack on. Information found in the backpack helped them figure out who the victim is.
Now, they are working with Collierville Police and the U.S. Marshalls Office, and they’re asking for help from the public.
“We are looking for a U-Haul truck with a white male driving it. He may have red hair. We got that information from a witness,” said McMillen.
McMillian says there was no obvious blunt trauma to the body and believes the driver of the U-Haul may have dumped the victim there.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
