MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in critical condition after a shooting near a restaurant in the University area Sunday morning, Memphis Police say.
Officers responded to the shooting outside of Ubee’s on South Highland Street at 1:13 a.m. A man was located on the scene and transported to Methodist University in critical condition, police say.
Two men were reportedly detained.
South Highland in Memphis is the place to be for many University of Memphis students on a Saturday night, which is why students like Sky Koelsch are shocked and upset to hear a man was shot outside of Ubee’s.
“Hearing this happened so close to home is very worrying because I’m a little girl in this big old world, so I’m definitely scared,” Koelsch said. “If it happened to him, it can happen to me.”
Koelsch says even though this is scary, it won’t stop her from coming to this area and enjoying all it has to offer, and she encourages others to do the same.
“It really isn’t the area’s fault, it’s just some of the people that just feel like being up to no good, I guess,” Koelsch said.
WREG went inside of Ubee’s to see if anyone had anything to say about the incident, but an employee said there was no comment.
