MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Millington Fire Department battled a large grass fire Wednesday afternoon near the Millington Airport.

Gary Graves, Millington public safety director, said the fire started after 2 p.m. as a debris/trash burn just outside the city limits. It spread to 5 acres, charring several vehicles and sheds.

No one was hurt and no homes were destroyed. At one point livestock was threatened, but they were unharmed.

Neighbors helped by using their tractors to draw lines around fire, Graves said.

Some equipment got stuck at one point because of soft ground but was removed.
