Two people killed in early morning crash at Jackson, North Belvedere

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police temporarily blocked off Jackson Avenue after a deadly crash early Monday morning.

In a tweet, the Memphis Police Department said the vehicle was speeding when it lost control and struck a utility pole near Evergreen.

First responders made the scene a little after 2:30 a.m.

The driver, Jarquis Burks, 24, andJamelda Short, 27, were both pronounced dead on the scene.

The vehicle was the only one involved in the crash, police said.

Jackson has been reopened to traffic.
