Jack-knifed tractor trailer cleared after closing I-40 east of Memphis

FAYETTE County, Tenn. — An accident involving a jack-knifed tractor trailer caused traffic backup on Interstate 40 on Saturday.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 11:21 a.m. on I-40 westbound, at mile marker 34 in Fayette County.

The THP said the westbound lanes of traffic were closed, and the eastbound lanes were experiencing “rubbernecking delays.”

THP diverted westbound traffic to alternate routes.

So far, there is no word on whether or not anyone was injured in the accident.

The route was cleared by about 8 p.m., and all lanes were reopened.
