HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. -- The head of the Utilities Department in Holly Springs has been fired.

But the question is why?

WREG started digging for answers after several tips came in saying he was let go for skimming money.

"It's still no comment at this time. It's a personnel issue."

It's something WREG heard a lot of after looking into an internal investigation within the Utilities Department of Holly Springs.

We went and asked the mayor if Michael Parker was fired or about to be last week.

"We just have an internal inquiry, that's all it is," said Mayor Kelvin Buck.

"Is it regarding finances?" we asked.

"No, it's regarding a lot of different things, but that's not necessarily the issue at hand at all, but I've asked the media to please just talk to our attorney," he said.

So WREG  tried that, but for almost a week now City Attorney Shirley Byers would only say, 'No comment.'

Our calls to her on Wednesday went unanswered and unreturned.

WREG's Bridget Chapman also went to her office and house, but she wasn't at either place.

The City Alderman had a meeting Tuesday night where Mayor Buck confirms Parker was fired.

Buck was adamant the termination had nothing to do with mishandling finances and said it was related to job performance.

He didn't want to comment further, saying it was a personnel issue.

WREG's efforts to reach Parker were unsuccessful as well.
