MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Flood waters are forcing the closure of a Memphis street, and it could be the first of several. The City of Memphis will barricade Second Street from Whitney and Mud Island Drive and also the access road to the Stiles Water Treatment Plant. The Mississippi is expected to crest at 40.5 feet on Jan. 8. That level has been adjusted several times. This is lower than it was in the damaging 2011 floods. Water is lapping at some homes on Mud Island. Those homes are raised, so there is not a concern of water getting inside at this time.
