MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two Westside Elementary School students were found with an illegal substance at school, according to Shelby County Schools.

The school principal told police the 9-year-old student found marijuana outside and sold it to an 8-year-old student for $5.

The 8-year-old then gave it back to the 9-year-old, who threw it between two buildings, police said.

The principal found the drugs and determined those two students were the ones who had it, police said.

The students were disciplined in accordance with the law and school policy, the district said.

That includes a juvenile summons and expulsion from school, police said.
