MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The top prosecutor in Tennessee’s largest county is reviewing a state police agency’s investigation into a man’s shooting by an officer last year.

The Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich has received findings of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the shooting of 25-year-old Martavious Banks.

Police have said Banks was shot by 26-year-old Officer Jamarcus Jeames on Sept. 17. Police say Banks was driving a car that was stopped by officers, who said they saw a gun in the vehicle. Police said Banks ran away and was shot. He was hospitalized in critical condition.

Jeames and two other officers have been relieved of duty pending the investigation. Weirich will decide whether to pursue charges against the officers.
