MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A deadly crash in Southwest Memphis has a community on edge.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at New Horn Lake Road at Brantley.
Three people, including a juvenile, were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
One person was pronounced dead on the scene.
“I was in my house, and I heard a big ‘pow,’ so I looked out the window and I saw the accident,” a neighbor said.
Neighbors say one of the driver’s lost control and hit the other car.
Two SUV’s were involved in the wreck.
“It was obvious she was going to fast to slow down,” a neighbor said.
Carolyn Kirkwood has lived in the area for 46 years and says this is a dangerous intersection.
“There are accidents all the time,” Kirkwood said. “It it’s not at this intersection, it’s at the next intersection. You always hear accidents and you see them all the time.”
She tells us speeding is a big factor in a majority of the crashes.
“They don’t drive with sense. The speed limit is 40, but they go 60,” Kirkwood said. “They drive like it’s not a street.”
Kirkwood says the neighborhood is filled with kids.
Her grandkids play outside all the time, and she says she’s always worried about their safety.
“They do not care. If they see a child, they’ll speed up instead of slowing down. They don’t use precautions at all,” Kirkwood said.
She’s hoping the city takes notice.
Neighbors tell us the woman who died in the accident just had a baby 7-months-ago.
However, police have not released the identities of the four people involved.
As soon as we hear something we’ll let you know.
There is a total of four individuals involved in this crash. Three individuals, one being a juvenile, have been transported in critical condition. One is DOA on the scene.
