(Memphis) Shelby County Commissioners approved a resolution Wednesday that will have more deputies working as School Resource Officers when Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools merge next fall.

Commissioners voted in favor of hiring 35 officers to patrol schools and make sure students stay safe once the new district is up and running.

Many of the officers that will work in schools are already on the force but more will be added to fill the demand.

The commission is scheduled to meet Monday for a final vote on the matter.
