(Memphis) Some children at a Memphis daycare had to duck and cover when someone fired shots at their building last month in the middle of the day.

Police say 21-year-old Deangelo Key is responsible and say he also robbed a man at gunpoint last week.

The shooting happened at the Hillview Headstart on East Alcy in South Memphis.

There are a number of bullet holes in the back of the daycare and in the back of a leasing office in the same building.

Police say the shots came from an apartment complex behind that building and say witnesses identified Key as the shooter.

There were about 40 children inside the daycare when the bullets started flying, but no one was hurt.

“The teachers were talking to them and letting them know what was going on the whole time,” said Hillview Headstart Director Mary Holman.

Police say Key also robbed and pistol whipped a man at an apartment complex on Sharpe.

Key is charged with aggravated robbery and reckless endangerment.
