WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — A 14-year-old boy is out of the hospital after police say he was accidentally shot by another teen in West Memphis on Sunday night.

West Memphis Police said they responded to the scene of the shooting at 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Walnut Drive.

They said a group of kids were playing with a gun that one of them found when a 16-year-old accidentally shot the 14-year-old.

The boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis for treatment. Police said Monday that he had been treated and released.

Police said the handgun was recovered at the scene, and that no adults were at the home at the time of the shooting.

They did not say whether anyone would face charges.

West Memphis Police urged parents to keep guns safely stored in their homes, and reminded people that the police department offers free gun locks.
