DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. –The Desoto County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver who struck a 12-year-old child as he was getting on the bus early Friday morning.

Guadalupe Tello was arrested and charged with aggravated assault: injury to a child board the bus.

He was taken to the Desoto County Adult Detention Center where his bond was set at $100,000.

According to the department, a Deputy was doing a routine patrol when he came across the accident at Getwell Road, just south of Pleasant Hill.

It was then that he learned the child had been hit while trying to board the bus to Hernando Middle School.

The boy was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital from DeSoto County.

“It is tragic and heartbreaking for anything like this to ever happen,” said Sheriff Bill Rasco “That child and his family will be in all our prayers.”

Tello did stay on the scene.

Eleven students on the school bus were transferred to another bus and taken to school.

The bus they were originally on is now part of the investigation.
