(Southaven, MS) Almost from the moment police found 86-year-old Georgie McKee severely beaten in her own home on December 30th, tips started coming in to DeSoto Crimestoppers.

Southaven Police Lieutenant Mark Little has worked the case every day since.

Sources identified 20-year-old Kwame Becton early on, but detectives needed that one thing to tie all the evidence together.

”We were just kind of waiting on the last piece of the puzzle I was looking for was the vehicle,” said Little.

Police in Forest Park, Ill., just outside Chicago, found McKee’s car, sending Little up to the suburb to run down leads on Becton.

”We do know he’s up in that area. There was several stories about where he might be. We couldn’t confirm any of it so we went, knocked on a couple of doors to no avail.”

Stories circulated that he tried to check into a mental hospital or that he was hiding out with relatives, but it was McKee's silver Chevy Impala that finally tied Becton to the crime.

Detectives say they got quite a bit of evidence from the woman’s car, so much that they say it’ll take a while to process all of it.

Meantime, neighbors who lived on the same street with Becton and Ms. McKee say they can’t believe it.

"It surprised me, because I know him. He wouldn’t hurt a fly," said Kevin Byrd.

He says Becton must have had help, somebody egging him on, but detectives say so far, everything points to Becton acting alone.

”There’s a lot of forensic evidence we’re gonna have to sort through that could tell us if there was another party involved so we’ll have to wait till that comes out. Right now, I believe we got the right guy.”

Little says at least two task forces in the Chicago area are looking for Becton tonight.

He believes they’ll bring him in, unless Becton turns himself in first.
