AUSTIN, Texas — Data breaches over the past year may hurt retailers this holiday shopping season.
A new poll from creditcards.com finds nearly half of Americans say they’re likely to avoid using their credit or debit cards at stores affected by breaches.
The retailers include Target, Home Depot and Neiman Marcus.
Consumer advocates say using plastic will still give shoppers the best protection on their purchases.
According to the survey, 48 percent of the people said they were more likely to use cash for their holiday purchases this year.
Only one in eight Americans said they are more likely to shop with credit cards this holiday season than previous years.
