TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Five people were taken into custody Tuesday after Shelby County deputies say they chased a stolen vehicle full of robbery suspects into Tipton County.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said they were responding to a robbery call about 10 a.m. in the 5700 block of Rensslaer, in an unincorporated area between Raleigh and Bartlett, when deputies encountered the suspects.

The suspects took off in a stolen car, deputies said. The chase ended near Highway 51 and Watson in Atoka before 11 a.m.

Deputies closed off parts of the area and tracked the suspects down using K-9’s and a helicopter along the way.

One deputy was hospitalized with a minor injury. Authorities say one stolen gun was recovered.

Vickie Caudle works at a nearby salon. She’s glad none of the innocent bystanders were hurt.

“Somebody came through the back door and said, ‘Quick, lock all your doors, there’s something going on,'” she said. “This is usually a quiet community, very peaceful, very pleasant.”

Authorities have not released the suspects’ names or their charges.
