SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — It’s been such a heartbreaking weekend across Shelby County. From our count, at least 13 people have been shot in just two days. Seven victims are dead and six are recovering.

All of the shootings happened within a few miles of one another.

Memphis activist Mario Denton has fought for peace within the city for years. But weekends like this have him losing hope.

“It’s not going to stop. No matter how we come together and protest. No matter how the activists get out here and try to get justice. It’s not going to stop,” he said. “You got gangs beefing with gangs.”

Saturday started with a shooting on Los Gatos. One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Saturday night, a total of six people as young as 13 were shot inside of a house after a gambling feud. It happened on Sun Ridge in the Raleigh area.

Two victims died, including 18-year-old Marcus Conway and 22-year-old Marquese Taylor.

Just minutes later, another shooting left one person injured in Memphis on Baltic Street. Memphis police say two males were seen arguing around 7:30. Shortly afterward, multiple shots were heard.

One of the victims was pronounced dead, police said Sunday morning. No arrests have been made.

Then, just blocks away, police responded to a scene in the 3300 block of Guernsey around 11 p.m. Officers discovered a man and a woman shot to death inside of a home.

Police say an investigation revealed that this shooting was a murder-suicide. The man shot the woman, and then shot himself.

Then, at around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police were called to a shooting in the 3300 block of Tutwiler. Officers found two men with gunshot wounds.

One man was pronounced dead. The other man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Sunday afternoon one person died after a shooting at Pendleton and Burns.

“Until we as people in this city start standing together and realizing what’s going on, until we sit down and think about it – it’s never going to stop,” Denton said.

Anyone who has information regarding any of these three shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
