MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mother and her boyfriend are behind bars, charged in connection to an alleged incident that left a 3-month-old in the hospital.
Cody Brown was charged with felony child abuse, authorities in Panola County told WREG. The child’s mom, McKenzie Flanigan, is being held in Tate County, accused of being an accessory after the fact.
The child, identified as Albreelynn Sanders by her legal father, Billy Sanders, was taken to the hospital in December and has since been placed in the state’s care.
He told WREG the child has undergone two surgeries and doctors do not believe this was the first time she has been hurt.
“She had old blood and new blood on her head which indicated this wasn’t the first time this happened,” said Sanders.
“Stitches all across her head, her poor little head is shaved and she has bruises on her arms and legs,” he added.
Despite the baby’s life threatening injuries, the baby is reportedly improving.
“They took her off the oxygen yesterday and she’s breathing on her own,” said Sanders. “She capable of opening her eyes at this point and she’s moving her arms around.”
“The lady said that there’s a chance she’s probably not going to be the same, and she’s going to need 24-hour care,” Sanders said. “She probably wont be able to walk or talk, we don’t know yet.”
WREG will keep you updated on Albreelynn’s recovery process.
