MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Detectives are investigating a triple murder that happened inside a Douglass home Saturday morning.
Police identified the victims Sunday as Anthony Isom, 35, Chasity Springfield, 28, and Michael Glover, 34.
A sea of family and friends stood at the crime scene on Chelsea Avenue and Lake Grove Street.
“I don’t understand why this happened," Zundra Cox, a friend of one of the victims, said. "I don’t know why this happened. But I’m sorry that it happened."
Loved ones don’t know all the details, but they know how they feel after hearing a woman and two men were gunned down inside a home early Saturday morning. Neighbors said the shooter shot all three after one of the victims answered the door.
“I was born and raised in this neighborhood, and it hurts my heart,” Jacqueline Coleman, another friend, said.
It’s heartbreaking for dozens who watched police look for clues Saturday. They told WREG one of the victims is the daughter of a Memphis police officer.
The murders happened on the same day many in the crowd were preparing to walk in a peace rally.
Cox said the violence in Douglass is overwhelming; she said she wants more police protection on the streets.
“Too much stuff is going on here in this community. Too much stuff is happening in this community. They act like they don’t care about our kids."
Jebori Thomas agrees. He pointed to how many people showed up at the corner as proof the community is hurting but also said he hopes peace comes soon.
“A whole lot of friends coming together, the whole neighborhood is coming together,” Thomas said.
Saturday, they were united in sorrow and prayer.
“Praying to keep hope alive, that our young people stay out of trouble, that nothing happens to them,” Coleman said.
This is an ongoing investigation. Police have not said if any suspects are in custody.
