MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Sunday morning shooting in the Nutbush area left one man dead and another man injured.

Officers were on the scene in the 1500 block of Duke. Police say two men were found with gunshot wounds.

One of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene. The other victim went to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the suspect has been detained.

Neighbors said they heard several rounds of gunfire around 6 in the morning, but admit that’s not uncommon.

“It’s a peaceful neighborhood, but you know from time to time, it changes," neighbor Edgar Coye said/

Detectives shut down much of the block as they investigated, focusing on a silver Mitsubishi Eclipse in a driveway.

WREG cameras also captured officers handcuffing a man and putting him into the back of a patrol car.

Coye, who has lived on the block just a few houses down since 1959, said police can only do so much to curb the constant violence across the city.

“You get concerned about it and you wish it was better, but the only way it’s gonna get better is the people’s gonna have to do it," he said. "Just try to educate the people. It’s gotta start somewhere, you know?”

Police haven’t released the names of the suspect or victims.
