LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Tenn. — A person is dead and another is hurt after they were thrown from their vehicle in Lauderdale County.

The crash happened shortly before midnight Monday on State Highway 19 near Jim Fullen Road in Ashport.

The driver, Johnathan Lilly, 18, of Jackson lost control of his pickup truck and drove across the highway, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The truck flipped over multiple times, and he and the 16-year-old passenger were both ejected, according to the THP.

Lilly was killed, and the passenger was hurt. The THP didn’t specify how bad the passenger’s injuries are.

According to the THP, neither was intoxicated, but neither was wearing a seat belt.

The THP trooper investigating the crash said in his opinion, wearing a seat belt would have made a difference.
