MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A wall has collapsed at Cargill, killing one person and hurting another.

Police were called to the scene on Buoy Street on President’s Island around 10:45 a.m.

Both victims were male employees, police said.

The one who survived is not in critical condition, police said.

Ricky Gaines says the noise stopped him in his tracks.
He works at Temco H&M Parts just across the street from Cargill.

“In a little while we started hearing sirens police ambulance fire trucks and stuff like that.”

Cargill says booms aren’t out of the norm but Wednesday’s wall collapse was not apart of the plan.

“They’ve been tearing down this building and last Friday, they disconnected that wall there, and it fell of course that was planned,” added Gaines.

Gaines says this is the most traumatizing things he’s experienced in all 12 years working near Cargill.
