  • State Takes Over Memphis’ Emissions Testing

    (Memphis)  The State of Tennessee will take over emissions testing for Memphis City residents in July. Drivers will have to pay for inspections, but the state and city must agree on the cost. People in Shelby County outside Memphis are not included at this point. The state takeover comes after Memphis decided to not fund auto inspections, and the county refused to take over the responsibility.

  • Sub-Committee Approves Municipal School Bill

    (Nashville, TN)  The Tennessee House of Representatives sub-committee on education has passed a bill that would allow cities to form their own school systems. House Bill 1288, sponsored by Shelby County Representative Curry Todd, could pave the way for local municipalities to form their own school systems, after Memphis dissolved its school charter, effectively merging with Shelby County Schools.   • Eight Cars Burning at It’s All Good Car Lot

    (Memphis)  Firefighters are battling fires on eight cars at a car lot on S. third St. The initial call said one car was burning but firefighters called for help, when they discovered eight cars ablaze. It is unclear what started the fires. News Channel 3 has a crew on the way and will tell you what happened tonight on News Channel 3 at 10.

    (Memphis) The University of Memphis Men’s Basketball team gained a #6 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers will play the winner of  MTSU/St. Mary’s play-in game in the first round this Thursday or Friday in Auburn Hills, MI.
