Ole Miss sells more than 15,000 beers on first day of sales
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — The University of Mississippi sold more than 15,000 beers as the school began alcohol sales at athletic events.
Local news outlets report fans bought 15,400 beers at the Texas A&M University football game last week. Beer and alcoholic seltzer was priced at $8 or $9, meaning the school made $128,000 in sales at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
SEC chancellors and school presidents voted in May to allow league members the option of selling beer and wine during sporting events.
Ole Miss officials say they waited until the season’s second half to learn from other schools’ experiences and promote responsible behavior. They reported no incidents on the first day of sales.
Alcohol will be sold at remaining home football games against New Mexico State and LSU and at basketball and baseball games.
