Shooting in Westwood sends one person to hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man was rushed to the hospital after a shooting in the Westwood area of southwest Memphis.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of Hicky Cove.

Police said the victim was rushed to the hospital but is expected to be okay.

Some in the neighborhood say they slept right through it, so it came as a complete surprise when they stepped out only to see this in an area they consider safe.

"Everyone is nice. Everyone is getting along and looking out for each other," Timberlina Lawson said.

According to crime mapping within a one-mile radius from where this shooting happened, police have been called out about 70 times over the past three months. As for what happened here, it now has neighbors on high alert.

Those living here say don't want this to become the norm in their neighborhood.
