Nashville officer killed in fiery crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Metro Nashville Police Department is mourning one of their own after a deadly accident early Thursday morning.

According to police, a 17-year-old driver sped off after being pulled over by an officer. While trying to escape, she reportedly hit another cruiser being driven by Officer John Anderson. Anderson’s vehicle spun out, hit a utility pole and then burst into flames, WTVF reported.

The news agency learned that Anderson was on his way to help another officer with an unrelated pedestrian call when the accident happened.

The female driver was not hurt. However, her passenger sustained life threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Charges are pending.
