Police investigate after neighbors hear 40 gunshots in South Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department is investigating a shooting in the 500 block of East Dison Avenue Sunday afternoon.

At least a dozen officers responded the scene around 3 p.m. Neighbors say they heard as many as 40 gunshots.

"Normally it's peaceful around here, but that was actually horrifying," a neighbor said. "I heard, 'boom, boom, boom, boom. Then it ceased for a minute, then it started back up and just continued."

Police searched by air and on the ground for whoever fired those shots.

WREG was there as officers cuffed one man and escorted him into the back of an ambulance. Moments before, officers placed a woman and two children in the back of a police cruiser.

Locals say this shooting stemmed from jealousy. They say a man became upset when several other men began catcalling his girlfriend. That's when he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired shots.

Fortunately no one was hurt.

This is an ongoing investigation.
