Police: Juvenile accidentally shot herself as co-defendant tried to make entry into apartment

Carlos McCarley

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A female juvenile was rushed to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital overnight following a shooting in southeast Memphis.

On June 11, officers were called to the 6700 block of Watergrove Drive after a juvenile was reportedly shot. When they arrived, they located Carlos McCarley on the scene who stated he was the one who gave the juvenile the gun. He admitted that he was trying to gain entry into an apartment and handed the weapon to the teen to hold.

That’s when the juvenile – who was listed in the police report as a “co-defendant”-accidentally pulled the trigger and shot herself.

McCarley was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
