MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman who survived a deadly shooting Friday night in Frayser says her ex shot her and an innocent man after an argument.
The victim asked WREG not to reveal her identity, but says she and her three kids could have been killed when their father shot up their house on Frayser Circle around 9 p.m.
“He was just parked in the road on the wrong side of the street and just started firing," she said. “And all of a sudden, I feel pain in my ankle and notice that my ankle got two bullets in it.”
She says her ex shot at the home at least 10 times while she was having a family get-together, killing her niece’s boyfriend, Marcus Powell, 20, and leaving bullet holes in the door frame and a wooden post on the front porch.
“I feel for his parents that had to go to the hospital last night and see their baby like that," she said.
She tells WREG the entire thing began over a lost necklace that her ex had recently given to their 14-year-old son, which she says wasn’t even worth anything.
“My son came in and started crying about, ‘My dad choked me, mama, with both of his hands,'" she said.
That led to an argument and a confrontation with a family friend, and that’s when she says bullets started flying.
Doctors tell her a plate in her leg from a previous surgery may have saved her life, but Powell wasn’t so lucky.
“Basically, I’m devastated. You know, it hurts me," she said.
She wants to see her ex thrown in jail.
“He need to be punished for that, because he killed a young man," she said.
WREG is not naming that man, because police haven’t listed him as a suspect. All they’re saying right now is that the gunman knew the victims.
