MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A pregnant woman is in critical condition, and a man who was with her is on the mend after being shot in the 3100 block of Madewell Monday night.

Officers responded to the scene just before 5 p.m. Police haven't said what led to the shooting, but the family believes robbery was the motive.

"Why even pull out a gun and you see there's a pregnant woman standing here in front of  you," relative Margaret E. said.

It's believed the man who was injured will make a full recovery. Now, family members are hoping the young woman and her unborn baby pull through.

"She's pregnant, so my whole thing is about the baby. Is the baby okay? How's the baby doing? So yeah, I'm worried because she's pregnant," Margaret E. said.

Two suspects wearing white tees and blue jeans fled the scene on foot. This is an ongoing investigation.
