MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was found shot to death inside a vehicle near Binghampton, police say.
Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 600 block of Harrell at 12:41 a.m. Saturday.
They found a woman with multiple gunshot woulds, dead inside a silver vehicle.
Evelyn Stone-Bailey said she heard two gunshots just after 10 p.m. as she was watching television down the street.
"Something said open the door. When I opened the door, I heard POW!" Stone-Bailey said.
"And then the second shot, POW, and glass moved and it felt like it was coming to the door."
Police finally discovered what had happened more than two hours later after Stone-Bailey said her son contacted them around midnight after noticing that the car had been sitting with its lights on and looked suspicious.
"He seen the car with the light on, but he thought maybe somebody was doing -- having fun," she said.
That wouldn't be out of the ordinary for that stretch of Harrell Street, she added.
"It's a problem 'cause condoms is all around my momma apple tree."
Stone-Bailey said she saw a possible suspect leaving the scene in a dark grey SUV, but that he didn't appear to be in a hurry.
Stone-Bailey is in a hurry to learn the identity of the woman killed. She worries it could be one of the working women who frequent the area.
"I'm really upset because I'm thinking it's this young lady and I don't know yet, and I'm wondering could I had saved her."
Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to call 528-CASH. They said they were waiting to confirm the woman's identity until her next of kin had been notified.
