Police say two men were sitting in a car on Applewood Cove just before noon Saturday when someone drove up and started shooting. Police say both victims are expected to be OK.
Neighbor James Malone heard the gun shots and ran to his home surveillance footage to try to figure out what had happened.
“I was basically sitting down watching the Memphis and Tennessee basketball game and I heard a couple shots, ‘Bam! Bam!’ and at that time, I went to the video and I saw a cop pulling up the street and I didn’t know what was going on.”
His 9-year-old granddaughter – who visits every other weekend – had left just an hour before the shooting.
“It’s the way the world has gone nowadays, it’s sad to say," he said. “I was just glad my little granddaughter was gone.”
And he says it’s not the first time he’s heard gunshots on his street.
“The house next door got shot up a couple months back. Don’t nobody live there, they was doing repairs on it. So, it happens.”
Investigators have only given a vague description of the suspect and say they don’t know if he and the victims know each other. The gunman was driving a white, four-door Mazda.
“Man it’s very scary, and I’ve got kids," said neighbor Brandon Sprouse, who has a 2-year-old and a newborn at his home a few doors down. He just moved in a couple of months ago.
“It’s been quiet over here. I didn’t think something like that would happen over here, he said. “People don’t care no more. People don’t have morals and values no more. I value family, friends, stuff like that. I try to stay out of situations like that.”
