GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Two people were killed Tuesday after a train struck a car.

On Wednesday, the victims were identified as Dorothy Bell, 86, and Samuel J.W. Bell, 98.

The family told WREG the couple were members of First Evangelical Church and were active in several different ministries across the city.  Mr. Bell served his country during World War II and was a founding board member of Evangelical Christian School.

The couple was married for 61 years.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. However we do know the couple were out grocery shopping at the time of the crash.

According to federal transportation records, there have been at least six accidents at this railroad crossing since 1975. But Tuesday's accident is the first fatal one in 24 years.

A 1994 accident killed one person — a high school student — and left three others injured. Another person was killed at the crossing in 1975.
