Police searching for suspect after man is killed at Whitehaven apartment complex

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot to death in the New Horizon Apartments in Whitehaven Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened just before 4 p.m.

This makes the third shooting we reported on on a shooting at the complex since April 2017.

"It's bad I can't really let my daughter go outside like she wants to, because there is so much crime," resident Monica Glasper said.

That's what many residents are saying about the complex.

"You can get up in the morning, and you're going to hear gunshots," Glasper said.

She says Sunday afternoon was no different when she pulled into the complex to see red and blue lights.

"They had a house surrounded with cops everywhere. The cops had guns in their hands, and another person was lost to gun violence," Glasper said.

WREG caught up with Melvin Webb as he was headed to visit his daughter who lives in the complex.

"I am going to go check on them now, and make sure it is no one in their household," Webb said.

He said it doesn't seem safe for his grandkids, and he doesn't understand the need to pull the trigger instead of fighting with fists.

"Back in the day we would fight and be friends the next day," Webb said.

Regardless, both Webb and Glasper say they want the killer caught.

Police say the suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and black shoes.

He was last seen running with his gun in hand. If you know anything call Crime Stoppers at (901)-528-CASH.

This is an ongoing investigation.
