ASHLAND, Miss. — One juvenile is dead and another critically injured following a car crash involving a Benton County school bus.

According to the Ashland Police Department, the bus had just dropped off students at the elementary school and was on its way to the middle and high school when it was clipped by a car with three juveniles inside.

The front seat passenger —a freshman student — was killed in the crash. Another sixth grade student in the back seat was airlifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

The driver, a senior student, was treated at a local hospital for injuries but is expected to be okay.

No one on the bus was hurt, but school officials said the accident was traumatic given they are a small school district with only 1,200 students.

Counselors and local pastors were brought in to talk with students.
